The Liberty Corporation Additions document -- through annual statements, correspondence and memos, financial records such as journals and ledgers, insurance policies, employee and training manuals, minutes, reports, a speech, and other materials -- various aspects of the Liberty Corporation, especially the early history of the Liberty Life Insurance Company and the Southeastern Life Insurance Company. These materials are arranged alphabetically by folder title and date from 1905 to 1997, with the bulk of the items dating between 1931 and 1971. Among the items in this record group are correspondence, financial information, and other material for the Liberty Life Insurance Company and the Greenville Office of the Southeastern Life Insurance Company for the 1920s and 1930s; correspondence with the South Carolina Insurance Commissioner; various reinsurance agreements between Liberty Life, Southeastern Life, and other southern insurance companies; and information relating to real estate investments, including the Liberty Life building in Charlotte, North Carolina. There are files relating to the Cosmos Broadcasting Corporation and subsidiaries in North and South Carolina such as LIBCO and the Southeastern Corporation, as well as those relating to a proposed merger between Liberty and the South Carolina National Bank.
